One of the questions I'm asked most often is:
"How often should my child have tutoring?"
The honest answer?
There isn't one right answer.
Every child is different.
Every family has different commitments, budgets and goals.
So rather than telling you what you should do, I'd much rather have a conversation about what would work best for your child.
For some children, a weekly lesson provides the consistency they need to build confidence and make steady progress.
Others may benefit from two lessons a week for a short period, perhaps leading up to exams or while they get to grips with a particular topic.
Some families prefer fortnightly lessons because it fits around school clubs, family life or their budget.
All of these options can work.
The most important thing is finding a routine that is realistic and sustainable for your family.
Our standard lessons are one hour.
However, that doesn't mean an hour is always the right choice.
Younger children, or those who find concentrating for a full hour difficult, often make much better progress in a 45-minute lesson.
Sometimes a shorter session means children remain engaged from beginning to end, allowing them to leave feeling successful rather than exhausted.
The aim isn't to teach for as long as possible.
The aim is to make every minute count.
Over the years, I've worked with children who learn in many different ways.
Some love practical activities.
Some enjoy discussion.
Some need movement breaks.
Some need a little longer to process information before answering.
Many of the children we support are neurodivergent, and every one of them is unique.
That's why we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.
At Clara James Tutoring, we don't expect children to fit neatly into our timetable or teaching style.
Instead, we adapt our teaching to suit them.
That might mean changing the length of a lesson.
It might mean adjusting how often they attend.
It might mean using games, visual resources, practical activities or different teaching approaches.
The goal is always the same:
To help each child feel understood, supported and confident in what they are capable of.
If you're considering tutoring, please don't worry about having all the answers before you get in touch.
We'll happily talk through your child's needs, your family's commitments and what you're hoping to achieve.
Together, we can decide what feels right.
Because at Clara James Tutoring, we believe that tutoring should fit around your child—not the other way around.
Parents often ask me what makes Clara James different.
I think it comes down to one simple idea.
We don't start with the timetable.
We don't start with the curriculum.
We start with your child.
Every decision we make, from the length of a lesson to the way we teach, is guided by one question:
"What is going to help this child flourish?"
Because every child deserves to be treated as an individual
