Marketing your tutoring business

Often parents want evidence of your experience, but you can’t get that until you’ve got the experience, but parents want the evidence of your experience and… so it goes on…

Marketing your tutoring business on and off line

When you decide to start your tutoring business one of the hardest things will be getting your first students. You know what you are going to offer will be amazing but it’s a chicken and egg situation. Often parents want evidence of your experience, but you can’t get that until you’ve got the experience, but parents want the evidence of your experience and… so it goes on…

One of the things I would suggest you do to help parents get to know you, like you, form that trust is to write a video diary /vlog for your social media highlighting the steps you are taking to get your business started.

Talk about what you are doing, but more importantly, why. Talk about your philosophy and approach to tutoring. Show examples of your resources. Talk about your experiences in work and homelife and how these have influenced the route you have decided to take.

You may decide to promote certain episodes, share them on social media, or your website, but video is hugely powerful. People may watch a couple of episodes and although they have never met you, they feel they know you and that in itself forms a massive amount of trust.

On the 24th of this month at 10am I’m doing a free webinar on marketing your tutoring business (on and offline). If you want to join me, the link is here:

For the past 20+ years I have been a firm believer that learning should be an enjoyable experience. I appreciate that traditionally education has revolved around worksheets, textbooks, listening to teachers. But a grounding in early years and working with children who had a variety of learning styles from I learned that it is an individual activity that is personal to all of us. We don’t all learn in the same way. Our influences, our experiences, our capabilities all influence how we retain information. But through it all, I believe that if we can make it enjoyable and engaging, they will want to participate. With participation comes practice which in turn boosts skill and confidence. With an increase in skill and confidence comes a willingness to have a go. This in turn leads to more practice which leads to a positive spiral of success. The moral, we need to make learning fun, engaging, use a range of techniques.
